Scratch all three play areas. Reveal a "Truck" symbol, win truck instantly.
Tax law requires that on non-cash prizes we withhold approximately 33 percent Federal, rather than the normal 25 percent. The value of the Ford F-150 is $35,654.75. The Montana Lottery is paying withholding, so that people who win the prize will be able to accept the prize without owing the required withholdings.
A winner will receive a Form W2-G for $62,916.45. Winners will be advised to seek tax advice, since they may owe additional state or federal taxes when they file their tax returns.
Where’s the confusion?
Initially, the bid the Lottery received for the eleven trucks came in at around $32,000. With withholdings (State and Federal), the prize would have been $57,600. That amount is on the ticket back (see back of game 627). The game had already been approved and printed when the original bidder withdrew their bid. A second bid was approved and it was slightly higher, so the value of the prizes on the Truck game increased as well.
