How to Play Hot Lotto

Completing a play slip

  • Use a pen or pencil in any color other than red
  • If you want more than one draw, mark the number of draws you want in the DRAWS section of the play slip. You can select two to 24 consecutive draws.
  • Select five numbers from 1 through 39 on the top panel of the play slip. Select one number from 1 through 19 – the HOT BALL – on the bottom panel.
  • Mark QUICK PICK if you want the computer to randomly pick some or all of the numbers for you. ( Save Time: If you want only QUICK PICK numbers, simply tell the clerk. You won’t have to complete a play slip.)
  • If you want to play HOT LOTTO SIZZLER for an additional $1 per play, you must select it on the HOT LOTTO SIZZLER section of your play slip or tell the clerk before you buy your HOT LOTTO ticket. If you're purchasing more than one HOT LOTTO play and select the HOT LOTTO SIZZLER option, that option will apply to all of your plays.

Reading your ticket

  • Look for the dollar amount you’re playing on the ticket across from the words HOT LOTTO.
  • Your numbers appear below the drawing date – the five white numbers printed in a row, followed by the specially labeled HOT BALL number.

Claiming your prize

  • Immediately sign the back of your ticket to establish ownership.
  • Collect prizes up to $599 at any Montana Lottery retailer.
  • Collect the jackpot or the $10,000 prize at Montana Lottery headquarters.
  • You may also collect any prize by mail.
  • Please note: All prizes must be claimed within six months of the drawing for which your play was eligible.

The fine print

  • The jackpot prize will be divided equally among multiple winning tickets.
  • The annuitized jackpot will be paid in 25 annual installments or you can elect to take the cash option. This option provides a lump-sum cash payment of approximately one-half the advertised jackpot amount.
  • The set prizes of $10,000 through $2 published here are based on the expected number of winners sharing the prize pool. In some cases, these prizes may be paid on a pari-mutuel basis and will be lower than the published prize levels. Refer to the official game rules for an explanation of the pari-mutuel prize payment process.
