HELENA – The Montana Lottery is off to a good start and handed out more than $40,000 during the first week of the new year.

On Tuesday, Patricia Dunmire, of Butte, won $10,000 on a Montana Millionaire ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at the Thriftway Super Stop #8 on Continental Drive in Butte.

Michael Welch, of Whitehall, claimed a $10,000 prize off of a Montana Millionaire ticket on Wednesday. This year, he decided to purchase his ticket in Anaconda, and it paid off! The winning ticket was sold at the Anaconda Liquor Store on Main Street in Anaconda.

Welch, a teacher at Anaconda Job Corps, wasn’t positive his ticket was a winner. He thought maybe the zero in front of his ticket number meant it was a different number than the one posted without. He went back to the retailer and the machine told him he needed to head to Helena, which means one thing, he was a winner! He plans to use the money to pay some bills.

Jonah Runsthrough, of Havre, won $24,268 on Thursday playing Big Sky Bonus. The winning ticket was purchased at the Holiday #272 on West First Street in Havre.

The Montana Lottery was created by referendum in 1986. Since then, it has paid over $497 million in prizes and returned approximately $224 million to the State of Montana.
