We believe in the future of Montana. That’s why we fund the largest scholarship program in the state, awarding $2.25M each year! The Montana Lottery STEM Scholarship has helped more than 2,100 local students pursue degrees and certifications in nursing, computer engineering, health, biology, and more!

The impact of the Montana Lottery can be seen every day in every corner of our state – and that makes us all winners! Take a closer look at how you’ve been supporting your neighbors throughout the years.
The Montana Lottery receives no state funding. We are funded completely by revenues generated by ticket sales. Our biggest single cost is our favorite: Prizes! Montana state law requires that at least 45 percent of all our revenue be returned to players as prizes.
While a private business would call any “leftover” dollars a profit, the Montana Lottery is not a private business. We are a branch of the state government created by citizens to benefit the state. We proudly transfer all our revenue after prizes and business costs to state accounts and we work hard to keep our business costs low to increase our yearly transfer back to the state.
The Montana Legislature has the sole authority to determine how all state dollars – including those contributed by the Montana Lottery – are spent. However, there are some parameters spelled out in Montana law that govern Lottery dollars, specifically:
